Abies amabilis (Szitka jegenyefenyő) Abies amabilis (Szitka jegenyefenyő)

A broad, regular cone-shaped tree. In their habitat, from Alaska to northern California, true wood giants also escape this species, some reaching up to 70 meters in height, but typically 30 meters in average height for adult specimens. It is interesting that the back of the needles are decorated with two stripes of wax. The stamens are red. Due to its very nice regular shape, it is often found in Western European gardens. It has a mild ocean climate. Irrigation may be necessary during the year of planting and during the very dry, dry summer period. Abies amabilis has good cold tolerance and can withstand temperatures below -25ºC. It is primarily planted in a sunny position, but it also develops satisfactorily in half-shade.
